PAULINE ADO A New Ambassador for Alpina

Comunicato Stampa disponibile solo in lingua originale.

Watchmaking brand #alpina unveils its new ambassador: French surfer #paulineado. Holding multiple World Surfing Champion titles, the athlete is passionate about protecting the environment—a cause shared by #alpina, a brand that has been intricately bound to nature, the great outdoors, and responsible exploration for nearly 140 years now. To mark this new collaboration, #paulineado has embraced the Seastrong Diver Gyre Automatic: an eco-friendly watch made from plastic waste sourced from ghost fishing nets fished out of the Indian Ocean.

A French surfer on a winning streak

Pauline Ado hails from the Basque Country, and although she might not have been born into a surfing family, she fell in love with the water and surf from the age of eight. Having contact with the ocean and the challenge inherent to taking on this unpredictable force of nature are what drive her. Her first taste of the waves came in Hendaye, off the Basque coast, and her first win at the age of ten had her hooked on competing. At the tender age of 13, the young athlete was selected for the French national youth team, and went on to win the World Junior Championships at 15 (2006).

As the first European woman to qualify for the prestigious ASP World Tour for the second year running in 2011, Pauline was crowned World ISA (International Surfing Association) Champion in 2017. She was selected for the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021, where she ranked ninth in the very first Olympic surfing event in the history of the #sport. As one of the biggest names on the women's surfing scene in France, there's nothing the she loves more than a challenge. Pauline is now focusing on achieving two goals: returning to the World Championship Tour (WCT) and representing France at the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024. Two new goals brimming with new challenges, buoyed by the same grit and determination as ever.

 An athlete who cares

Pauline Ado may be a high-level athlete, but she still finds time to support the causes she holds most dear. And one matters more to her than any other: protecting our oceans. She became aware of environmental issues at a very young age, and in 2018, she was named an ambassador for #alpina partner the Surfrider Foundation Europe. Pauline was moved by the watchmaking brand's efforts to help save our planet, prompting her to accept the invitation to become Alpina's ambassador without a second thought. Look closely, and you'll notice the Seastrong Diver Gyre Automatic strapped to her wrist: an eco-friendly timepiece featuring a case partially made (70%) of plastic waste sourced from ghost fishing nets fished out of the Indian Ocean, plus a strap made from recycled plastic bottles. This automatic diving watch is water-resistant up to 300 metres, and fully embodies the surfer's commitment to working towards a more sustainable future.
