A Big Bang Zermatt leading the way A stylish base camp at an altitude of 1,608 metres

At an altitude of 1,608 m, at 27 Bahnhofstrasse, the new Hublot store proudly bears the marksof SUISSITUDE. A real "Schatzchischta" (treasure trove) amongst the highest peaks in Switzerland. To mark its ascension, Hublot has created two numbered limited editions. The spirit of the Matterhorn shining at the heart of Big Bang. As Zermatt honours its legendary mountain—celebrations are under way for the 150th anniversary of the first ascension of the Matterhorn—Hublot is inaugurating its 80th store in the world. In a unique location that has seen the design of Hublot's stores transposed in a style that blends tradition and modernity. The name Zermatt means "in the mountain pastures" (zur Matte); so Hublot wanted to respect the tradition of the area and its history by creating an original and emblematic Chalet-Boutique. On the outside, we see a contemporary interpretation of the traditional architecture. On the inside, the counters and the displays are dressed in wood and glass. Under a framework of exposed beams, the old wooden walls reveal the narrow openings that are so characteristic of the barns. The lights inserted into them give the space a warm "homely" feel. On the walls, the displays surrounded by metal frames illustrate a typically Swiss art, reinterpreting the technique of paper cutting. The resulting patterns illustrating transhumance also find their way onto the external window displays and balconies. Hublot felt it was important to highlight local tradition and to blend it into its identity. To mark its climb to the foot of the Matterhorn, Hublot has created two numbered Big Bang Zermatt models. In a tungsten or satin finished red gold case, with a ceramic bezel, a grey satin finished sun dial displays a counter at 9 o'clock engraved with the emblematic silhouette of the Matterhorn. Held on a brown calfskin strap with beige stitching, the Big Bang Zermatt is available in a limited edition of 150. The base opens to reveal a mechanical chronograph automatic winding HUB4100 movement. A piece of 3 cm rope takes pride of place above the movement between two sapphire panes, as if sealed for eternity. The Zermatt region is home to many tales and legends. One legend says that the original rope was found at an altitude of 4,320 metres on the North-East crest of the Matterhorn. It is said that ropes have a soul—due to the inside of the rope that is made up of many nylon threads meshed together— and there is no doubt that the soul of the Matterhorn shines at the heart of the Big Bang. Hublot paves its way in Zermatt with traditional costumes and music, delicious cheese from Monsieur Biver, typical dishes and the good humour for which is renowned.
