Nikecourt X Colette celebrates Maria Sharapova's return to Paris
In honor of defending champion Maria Sharapova’s return to the clay of Paris, NikeLab is partnering with Parisian boutique colette to present a pair of NikeCourt footwear powerhouses. The collaboration yields the NikeCourt Zoom Vapor 9 Tour x colette and the NikeCourt Tennis Classic x colette.
NIKECOURT ZOOM VAPOR 9 TOUR X COLETTE
To equip Sharapova for another run at history, NikeLab and colette have teamed up to reinterpret the NikeCourt Zoom Vapor 9 Tour. Detailed in colette’s signature blue colors and iconic dots, the women’s performance tennis shoe features a number of subtle design nods to Sharapova. These include the Maria Sharapova logo on the back tab of the left shoe and five symbols on the midsole to honor her five major championships. The sockliner
also features text inspired by her quote, “I am not the next anyone, I am the first Maria Sharapova.” Sharapova will pair the shoe with her Nike Maria Paris Dress when defending her title in France.
First introduced in 2012, the Nike Zoom Vapor 9 proved to be yet another example of Tinker Hatfield’s knack for designing tennis footwear. With the Nike Air Trainer 1, the current Nike Vice President of Creative Concepts inadvertently created a shoe that would spark a paradigm shift throughout the Nike design community. He followed in his own footsteps three years later with the Nike Air Tech Challenge II. Both were worn by the most dominant tennis players of their time.
The Nike Zoom Vapor 9 Tour is no different. Designed to combine the comfort and breathability of a running shoe with the lower stance required for tennis, the silhouette has become one of the winningest Nike tennis shoes ever. Since its introduction, the shoe’s unique fit system has supported some of the best tennis players in the game, including Sharapova during her victory in Paris a year ago.
NIKECOURT TENNIS CLASSIC X COLETTE
The term “classic” can be defined as anything that is an outstanding example of a particular style, or something of lasting worth and timeless quality. In the case of the NikeCourt Tennis Classic x colette, that definition is spot on.
Popularized on the capable feet of a hot-tempered superstar who literally swore by them, the NikeCourt Tennis Classic embodies tennis tradition and style. This silhouette represented Nike’s earliest foray into tennis, and its outwardly simple design performed on both grass and synthetic surfaces. It featured soft grain leather uppers and terrycloth insoles for elevated comfort.
Honoring more than 40 years of refined court style, NikeCourt has collaborated with colette to update the silhouette with the Parisian boutique’s signature blue on the tongue, laces, Swoosh, cupsole stitch, and heel accents. The upper, lining and tongue are constructed of premium leather and the insole features a tout to colette below the NikeCourt logo. The laces include a degradé pattern that transitions from deep blue to white when moving up the collar, while the heel features colette's signature dots. The NikeCourt Tennis Classic x colette is available in both men’s and women’s silhouettes.
