Porsche Design Chronotimer Series 1 - Legendary Characteristics with a new Look: Black and Titanium

With the Chronotimer Series 1, Porsche Design presents a timepiece in- fluenced by legendary watch models. At the same time, the new Chronotimer models are the first complete series of watches developed completely inde- pendently by the luxury brand. The principles of the Series 1 correspond with those laid out by Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche for the very first watch he de- signed in 1972: optimal readability, technical perfection, the highest quality materials and an absolute focus on functionality. The new Porsche Design Chrono- timer Series 1 will be launched in June 2015. A tradition: the colour black With the black Chronograph I in the early 1970s, Porsche Design anticipated a trend which is now an integral part of the watch industry, and which was revolu- tionary at the time. For Porsche Design, however, the matt black design had a purely functional background: the watch was reminiscent of the non-reflective in- struments found in racing cars, where everything but the numbers and the hands are matt black. This prevented unwanted reflections and allowed the driver to easily tell the time. The Chronotimer Series 1 continues this tradition. The result is a pu- ristic and timeless precision instrument without decorative details and flourishes. A revolution: titanium Besides puristic, timeless design, Porsche Design relies on innovative materials. In 1980, Porsche Design once again revolutionised the world of watches with the Ti- tanium Chronograph – the world's first titanium timepiece. This means the watch is extremely resistant, and offers a high degree of wearer comfort due to the light weight of the material, which weighs much less than stainless steel. Extremely light and extremely durable: the messages are as relevant today as they were then and are a tradition from which all models of the Chronotimer Series 1 benefit. Functionality and aesthetics were equal partners in the mind of Professor Ferdi- nand Alexander Porsche, with neither taking priority over the other, and this conviction held by the designer set a trend that applies to this day. Nothing is there just for decoration: the impressively defined shapes are derived from the function- ality and made from carefully selected, authentic materials that are assembled with highly skilled workmanship. A new era: Timepieces made by Porsche Design The Porsche Design Chronotimer Series 1 was developed entirely by Porsche De- sign Timepieces AG, based in the Solothurn (Switzerland), and was also manufactured in Switzerland. It is based on both the legendary Chronograph I timepiece from 1972 and the Titanium Chronograph from 1980. The characteristics of the first completely independently designed series of watches are timeless and modern: the band and the case of the Chronotimer are made from glass-bead blasted titanium, which is then painted matt black using a special process. The di- ameter of the case is 42 millimetres. Inside the watch ticks a mechanical ETA Valjoux 7750 chronograph mechanism with a power reserve of 48 hours and a date display beside the number “3”. The blackened sapphire crystal case back that shows the inner workings of the exclusive, energy-optimised Porsche Design rotor is a real eye-catcher. The Chronotimer Series 1 is waterproof up to five bar.
