Introducing Jenny Packham's AW21 Collection
Inspired by the book 'If These Jewels Could Talk'; a star-studded account of the most iconic women of all time wearing their jewellery; the AW21 Collection features a colour palette of pink diamond, sapphire, rubies and pearls.
In the book, the sparkle of the jewels almost eclipses the beauty of the stars – Grace Kelly, Jean Harlow and Elizabeth Taylor. And whilst I enjoyed flicking through the pages of bedazzling creations and moments in the lives of the glamorous elite, it was the title of the book that captured my imagination and I thought - If only my dresses could talk...
To design evening wear, I do need to consider where the dress will be worn and who will wear them. But, wouldn't it be thrilling to hear the chatter and excitement behind the scenes of a red carpet event and perhaps later catch the gossip, intrigue and scandal of the night?
The collection this season is a continuation from our Pre Collection where we indulged in the glamorous stars of the cinema; demure silhouettes, gowns scattered with embellishments, alluring cocktail dresses and feathered ball gowns. However, each time we looked upon a gown on its mannequin, we would ask ourselves 'where is she going?'
Given the lockdown status this question was received initially with blankness but then we would let ourselves go and create magical evenings and wild parties. It was fun to fantasize and for a few moments we almost felt that we had gone away with the dresses into the night.
But, now, with the news that the world is slowly reopening, perhaps our dreams of dressing up are now not so far away...
