Compañero World2: The Art of Perfecting

Improving a product that’s already perfect is not such an easy task! But #touratech has done just that with the Compañero World2. With some fine-tuning on conceptual details, plus new materials in a number of areas, the suit is sure to keep setting standards for functionality and comfort.

Five years ago, when #touratech presented its first in-house developed touring suit – the Compañero Worldwide – a new chapter opened in the evolution of textile motorcycle clothing. The All Weather Add is a waterproof and breathable outer layer for bad weather that is worn over the airy inner “Summer” suit, into which the protectors are integrated. At the same time, the outer jacket makes an ideal casual jacket.

This principle, which has been tried and tested in all climate zones on journeys all over the world, leading to many top rankings and recommendations, has been retained unchanged with the Compañero World2. But numerous details have been modified in light of thousands of users’ experiences and advances in textiles.

Thanks to a new fabric with greater air flow – Cordura Air – in the ventilated zones, the inner Summer suit is now even airier, yet at the same time more resilient. Cordura 500 is used as the base material, while the additional shoulder and elbow layers are made of even stronger Cordura 2000. Another new material, incorporating woven reflective threads, is used for the reflective areas.

The overjacket of the All Weather Add has also received a textile makeover. An even lighter, extremely rugged three-layer laminate by renowned manufacturer W. L. Gore is now used. Starting with the 2016 model, the overjacket features two air vents on the front, equipped with YKK Aquaseal zippers which close for a watertight seal. An air outlet opening is located on the back at shoulder-blade height. It can be closed via a well-covered zip.

To further enhance the fit, several tailoring details have been modified. The diagonally arranged cargo pockets on the trouser legs are now more accessible while sitting; the all-weather trousers are easier to put on as the zips have been extended up to the waistband; both trousers are now equipped with belt loops; and a two-way zipper makes it easier to get into the inner trouser pockets. Furthermore, on the women’s jacket, the transition from the shoulder to upper arm has been anatomically optimised. As before, there will be a black/grey/yellow and an all-black version. The Compañero World2 is fully equipped with protectors, all of which meet the latest standard (Level 2 = highest protection class).

The most significant change, however, is in how the All Weather Add suit is stored. Instead of a zip-on back pocket, it now comes in a slender backpack with expanding zippers. The backpack straps ensure optimum weight distribution and can be discreetly concealed when not in use, and the backpack can be used separately on short excursions.

Because the zips on the Compañero World2 are identical with those on the previous model, jackets and trousers from both suits can be combined. Like the previous model, the Compañero World2 is produced in collaboration with esteemed German manufacturer Stadler. It will be available from early 2016.
